take a load off in this lovely wingback chair

Wingback chairs have never been my favorite and I'm not sure if it's because of my mother's excessive love of 18th century furniture or that the purported historical reason "for the wings were assumed to be to prevent drafts in old houses from reaching the upper body or to protect the delicate skin of gentrified ladies from the heat of a roaring fireplace". Really?

So it was with whimsy that of all the types of furniture I should see today on my bicycle ride home in a most incongruous place to the north side of the Golden Gate Bridge ~ this discarded wingback chair below.  My very active imagination envisioned a virtual Victorian delicate lady of refinement right next to it.
