Day Four to Baja

DAY FOUR BAJA TRIP SAN FRANCISCO TO CABO SAN LUCAS

Guerrero Negro ~ all of us arrived in Guerrero Negro at a decent afternoon time after a beautiful ride through the CataviƱa desert. We couldn't ask for nicer weather with sun, very little wind and about 77°F on average. The road was peppered with holes but none of them took us down. The bigger challenge was the speed bumps out of nowhere called "topes". There are even a few articles written about these menacing bumps because they are no joke and sometimes appear without much warning. Today one of our riders experienced his top case going airborne when he hit one around Rosarito with such velocity that his vitamins and shaving cream ended up decorating the road. He had plenty of help from some of our other riders picking up the items but he asked one of our guys "what's Rick doing back there?" and was told "he's picking up your stuff!" Oh yeah. Then another guy's communicator that was on his helmet flew off of while going over a tope. One of our Canadians limped along all day with an alternator (stator) issue on his F800 but he had a spare battery hooked up sitting in his tank bag that his dad charged up ready for swapping out if needed since nobody likes to be left in the desert. His dad is on the ride too riding a Ural. Glad to report he made it on just the one battery. He is aiming to get to Cabo and then do his own stator replacement.
