The coast of California ~ always sublime

Returning a week ago from a round trip SF to San Diego on the motorcycle, the coast of this state never fails to amaze me. Stimulating all five senses constantly... the smell of sage on a hot day mixed with salty fresh smell of the ocean is most sublime. While moving along at a good speed down the US Route 1 from San Francisco to San Simeon, these are the fragrances that keep me returning. Of course the view is unparalleled too and cause audible gasps of amazement around every other turn, especially with the fog dance as it comes in and recedes all the way down the coast.   The trip from San Francisco to San Simeon is 211 miles in total down Highway 1 but due to curvy roads, the time it takes is about 6 hours. Some notably stops I made along the way~
  • breakfast at Haute Enchilada in Moss Landing
  • several stops on the side of the road to take photos of the fog
  • stop at Big Sur for gas and a cup of coffee
  • stop at Nepenthe in Southern part of Big Sur for a visit to the bookstore
  • stop at Heart Castle Visitor Center for bathroom and coffee
In this trip I did go on to San Diego but the list would be long so perhaps another post in the future. In the meantime, here are some photos.
